Today’s a Sunday, and it’s family and and bonding time for my sisters and me. I was thinking if we’d spend the day shopping but I was rather bored of the idea ( huwaaat? Seriously ), or maybe just afraid that I’d draw a bigger hole in my pocket, so I invited them all to watch a movie. I remember my bestbud M telling me that she was anticipating Evan Almighty, and I said, “No, not again, another Jim Carey flick?” , “No, this time it’s Steve Carell! The one who starred in the 40 Year Old Virgin? “. At that time, I only heard of Steve Carell, remembering his name in the opening credits of Saturday Night Live , my favorite show, but a few weeks after, I got to watch the 40 Year Old Virgin and it was really funny, and I actually liked Carell’s acting.

To start, I didn’t watch Bruce Almighty, because for the primary reason that I didn’t like Jim Carey’s acting - it just didn’t appeal to me. At all. Watching the trailer of Evan Almighty made me want to watch it because it seemed freakin` funny. I also made my baby sister Shine who’s 8 watch the trailer in Youtube for her approval ( because she might just throw a tantrum in the middle of the movie when she gets bored ), and I was so surprised that she actually agreed to watch it. Maybe she liked the cute animals flocking around Carell! Hahaha!

Anyway, I’m gonna stop stalling and get on with my review. Read the rest of this entry »

Won’t you let me chip away the stone?

Are you really better off alone?

Won’t you let your guard down one more

Just like I’ve done mine

We’ll look until find something neither will forget

My favorite regret

Remember when I said last time about not having more emo entries? Well…blame the mp3 player, that I’ve been playing this really nice and sentimental song, My Favorite Regret, as recommended by D. Come to think of it, alot of people want to make mistakes, this song starts with, “Will you be my favorite regret? Will you be my sweetest mistake,”, and I hear another song that starts with, “You are my sweetest downfall.” Read the rest of this entry »

As the second quarter of the year is about to end, I feel that my workload is getting more and more, with each business of mine pulling me in different directions, as I am trying to help myself from bursting.

And this is why I was given summer to enjoy my days in the sun - this is payback time.

I was able to watch Rush Hour 3 last Saturday with my best buds, and well, it’s always fun to watch the wacky tandem of Jackie Chan (whom they tease on not being to speak perfect English ), and Chris Tucker ( who is so darn funny ).

The movie was quite short , as it ended with me thinking, “it’s already finished?”, with a quizzical look in my face. The plot wasn’t fully developed, and there was so much more that they could add to give some story to the movie.

Well, what can I say? I grew up idolizing Thalia. I was in grade school when Marimar, Thalia’s telenovela, took Manila by storm, as it started the Thalia craze, that aired more of her telenovelas such as Maria Mercedes and Maria la del Barrio which I also watched every episode of. I even recollected memories of news segments about mothers naming their children Marimar, or Thalia.

Now, GMA is doing a remake of the hit series Marimar, starring Marianne Rivera. To be honest, I’ve never, ever watched GMA teleseries, nor considered switching to the channel since I am a solid Kapamilya, and personally prefer teleseries that are from ABS-CBN. I don’t know, maybe GMA’s style just never appealed to me. But the revival of Marimar further piqued my curiosity, as I promised to watch it. Read the rest of this entry »

…”Soph, why didn’t it ever have a follow-up?”

those were the words that my best bud J asked me last Saturday, as we were talking about people we like. I didn’t know what to answer her, so I just said in “well, I don’t know, ” in an honest demeanor.

It’s as if I didn’t want it to happen. It’s as if I didn’t want to have a “follow-up.”

As I am chained in the body of the “weaker sex” as they call it , I’ve never ever felt weak in my entire life, as I debated, defended that women were just as equal as men.

It’s just this time, I really felt weak. Helpless. Unable to do anything. Powerless.

I just can’t help it, the chilly, cold, damp weather screams EMO! It is opium to the brain, and so much more for the heart. When I was riding the car, it was raining so hard that I could see drops of water by the window, as the old song by Roxette plays on the radio,

Lay a whisper on my pillow, leave the winter on the ground. I wake up lonely, theres air of silence in the bedroom and all around. touch me now, I close my eyes and dream away.

I felt that the song It Must Have Been Love is such a perfect song for this weather. The theme is just about the cold ( though we’re not necessary winter-weather-land ), and how it is conducive to so much reflecting. ( the song is all about reflecting. ).

and as embarrassing as it may sound, I felt the song take me away into reflecting on what’s been happening in my life.

Ooh, this is so not my season.

The reason why I love the weekend is that my world stops and I am able to do something different from the things I do from Monday to Friday. This week, I was down with asthma, so I was able to spend my Saturday at home, with my mom, as we spent a quiet ( and Chinese ) dinner of steamed spare-ribs, fried dumplings, and fish fillet.

I am Filipino-Chinese, and it’s in my blood to have an affinity for Chinese food. I just love everything about Chinese food, and it tops as my favorite cuisine, to be followed by Spanish, and Korean. I think that I would never get tired of Chinese food, because I like it when it’s smokin’ hot ( I am feverish with hunger when I see a cup of hot and sour soup ) , and I like it when it’s cold, too ( ala-cold cuts, shrimp salad , mango sago…yum!). Last weekend, my friends and I headed over T House, Tagaytay. Our friend J was still in a very playful mood that she didn’t tell us where we’d be heading, and just asked us to follow her car. We were guessing if we’d go to Antonios, but she said no, and we were almost hopeful we’d go back to our ( M and I’s ) favorite Tagaytay resto, Buon Giorno, but J promised us something new. Well, T House is surely something new, and I immediately connected it with one of Anton’s entries about him trying out the place!

The place was very Zen-like , for all I could see was black and white interior design except for the color of the chairs, and we only made do with an electric fan instead of an air-conditioned room, as we also enjoyed the chilly air that Tagaytay is famous for.
